An automotive trim manufacturer in Montreal: testing its own carbon fiber parts before ordering

Luxwood Auto Trim Design · Montreal, Quebec, Canada · In production since 2020

Two carbon fiber trim samples compared in the factory cutting test for Luxwood
Test cuts made at our factory to Luxwood's drawings, June 2020. The top part was cut with a pure waterjet cutting head, the bottom part water-only without abrasive; both ran at 1000 mm/min, and the pure waterjet cutting head left a smoother cut surface.

Customer background

Luxwood Auto Trim Design is based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It makes automotive interior and exterior trim and decorative parts, many of them small parts cut from carbon fiber sheet.

02

What the buyer was worried about

When Luxwood inquired in May 2020, its questions focused on practical production needs: How accurately could small parts be cut? How easy was it to turn DXF drawings into cutting files? Should carbon fiber be cut using pure waterjet cutting or abrasive waterjet cutting? What about pump noise, workshop space and the local 600 V power supply? How would the machine reach the door, and how would it be unloaded?

The team also wanted to try the software before buying.

03

Why VICHOR

Luxwood sent DXF drawings of its parts on the day it inquired. At our factory, we test-cut carbon fiber trim panels to those drawings and compared different methods of pure waterjet cutting. We sent the photos and videos to Luxwood so the team could judge the cutting quality using its own parts.

In June 2020, Luxwood placed its order.

05

Installation

The machine was loaded into a container and shipped in July 2020. Luxwood's own team installed it in the workshop, with remote guidance from VICHOR engineers through photos and online communication throughout the process. We also helped set up the software and drawing conversion.

06

Results

By 2022, Luxwood's production was growing, and the team planned to cut for around 10 hours a day. That year, Alenac, a railing manufacturer in Florida, wanted to speak with existing customers in North America before buying a VICHOR waterjet. We introduced Luxwood. This was Luxwood's reply to Alenac:

“We are very happy with Vichor system and service.”

“Maybe you are hesitant about buying such an equipment from China. We definitely were, but it’s been great.”

What this case shows

  • Test-cut your own parts before buying: the customer sent the drawings, and we cut the parts at our factory so the results could speak for themselves.
  • A small cutting table can support professional small-part production. An 80 kVA transformer supplied with the machine can accommodate the local 600 V power supply.
  • A customer who once had reservations about buying equipment from China later recommended VICHOR to another buyer.
